Bad Debt Credit Card Advice

Looking for a bad debt credit card can be incredibly difficult these days, with providers being constantly warned about tightening up their lending requirements.

However, you can still get your hands on credit card, even if you’ve had bad debt problems in your past. But like anyone else applying for a credit card, you want it to help ease your financial restrictions, not make things worse. Therefore it’s imperative that you find the best deal.

People who have a history of bad debt on their credit records will either be rejected on heavily scrutinised by providers, so prepare yourself for this before applying for a credit card or any other type of finance.

Fortunately though, because there are so many people with debt problems in the UK, there are a host of companies that specialise solely in bad debt credit cards, who will be prepared to help you get what you’re looking for. However, more often than not these agreements come with various stipulations.

For instance, some providers will insist that you pay money to them in advance before they give you a card so you start off in credit. This is an act of good faith more than anything else, to prove that you have the money available to make repayments. Other providers might enforce a small borrowing limit of a few hundred pounds, which stops you spending excessively.

If you want to borrow more or don’t like the idea of having these types of agreement, some providers will give you more relaxed terms if you secure your bad debt credit card against an asset. This means that if you default on repayments they can cease ownership and recapture their money. It’s important you think carefully before securing any asset against a credit card. If you can’t afford to lose it then don’t put it on the line.

Make sure you look around both online and in the high street for offers on bad debt credit cards. Once you find an offer that you think might be suitable, talk it through with someone and then come away and think about it for another few days before heading into an agreement. This will stand you in good stead.
